We’ll stay overnight at the Farm Stay – owned by a Belgian couple; in the middle of the rice fields and coffee farms. You may stay at the private bungalows, next to a waterfall, the flower garden and a pool. You can book the family to cook your dinner and make the BBQ party (your option), have some cold beers and relax next to the camp-fire in the evening.
We’ll travel from the Farm stay to the west of the central highlands by the new road in the jungle, then through the Nam Cat Tien National Park and cross the big dam to enter the Hochiminh road and continue to travel along the border of Cambodia-Vietnam to the south. Along the way you can visit: the tea plantations; learn about the history of the famous Hochiminh Trail; explore the Cat Tien Holyland – since the 4th century. You also can try the ride on some off-roads. Stay overnight at the 2 stars hotel.
Continue to travel from the highlands down to Mekong delta, by the small roads through the rubber plantations and stop by the broken bridge that used to be the part of the old HCM trail in Vietnam war, visit the Burning Tank memorial in Cu Chi, visit the secret entrance of Cu Chi tunnel at Saigon river, visit the heroic Cu Chi tunnel where you can do the gun-shooting (your options) – Did you know who were the first men that explored the Cu Chi tunnels – it’s the Australian soldiers not the U.S army: “Tunnel Rats – How it all began: In January 1965 a unique chapter of Australian military history was created when a young Royal Australian Engineers captain called Sandy MacGregor, encountering a Vietcong tunnel system, asked a very pertinent question – does anybody know what’s down there? Sandy’s men in 3 Field Troop answered that by being the first Allied soldiers to explore the Vietcong’s tunnels in Cu Chi – US Army protocol was to identify the entrances and destroy them – thereby creating the legend of the Tunnel Rats…”. From Cu Chi will travel by the small road to Mekong delta, visit some local villages on the way. You can choose either to stay overnight at 2 stars hotel or to do homestay with local family.
Travel by the small roads from Tien Giang to the old land of Khmer Krom; they are ethnic Khmer who inhabit Kampuchea Krom, an area in southern Vietnam that was once part of the Khmer Empire. Among the Khmer Krom the belief is held that they are the descendants of ancient Funan, the core of Suvarnabhumi, which covered a vast extent of Southeast Asia including present day Cambodia, southern Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Burma, Malaya, Sumatra and other parts of Indonesia. You will do 3 boat trips to explore this region, visit the 1,000 years old Cambodian temple, and Cambodian village. Stay overnight at the 2 stars hotel at the city or do homestay (with cooking class and enjoy traditional Vietnamese dinner with locals) in the countryside of Mekong Delta.
Wake up at 6 am for the boat trip to explore the famous floating market; farmers from the region bring their goods, fruits and vegetables mainly, to the markets and sell them to local dealers. These dealers sell the products to shops in the neighboring towns and to wholesale dealers from the big towns. In the picture you can see a local farmer with fruits for sale. All big boats have a pole. Each wholesaler hangs the goods he buys / sells on this pole. This way, people on small boats know where they have to go from a certain distance. On the floating markets you do not only find people buying and selling goods, you also find floating restaurants, floating bars, floating gas stations, and many other floating shops. Canals are here the easiest and fastest way of transportation. Do homestay and cooking class with local family.
In 2008 while our VIETNAMRIDER® Travel Company has been invited to do a show on Vietnam Television Channel there was another series called Top Gear made their cheap funny movie about when they travel through Vietnam by the old small motorbikes. We’ll travel by the small back roads and off-roads only, no highway, enter the center of Saigon from the countryside in 20 minutes only, do another 3 boat trips to explore the Mekong delta, visit the furniture making from the green hyacinths on the Mekong river. End tour.
