We arise for breakfast at your hotel, before departing at 8:30am via tuk tuk to experience the intense aromas and flavours of the incredible Russian Market. After we are finished at the market we will travel via tuk tuk to the S21 Genocide Museum, which was an interrogation center and torture facility during the Khmer Rouge atrocities (1975-1979), to understand exactly what happened during these horrific times! We will then travel again via tuk tuk towards the Killing Fields, where we will stop for a delicious traditional lunch at one of the local Khmer restaurants. After lunch we will then spend time visiting the killing fields where the Khmer Rouge took so many innocent lives, and reflect on what happened here only 40 years ago. After taking our time to let this experience sink in, we will travel via tuk tuk back to your hotel to refresh and relax, before we are transported via tuk tuk towards the riverside to join an evening sunset cruise along the Mekong River and enjoy a delicious dinner including drinks and BBQ. At around 7:30pm we will disembark the cruise and return you to your hotel, where you can relax and visit the local delights.
After breakfast at the hotel, we ride to Diamond Island harbor and make the crossing on the ferry to Kos Dach. We will disembark the ferry and then ride to visit the silk farm village, to see the amazing local silk production techniques unique to the Island. At the silk farm house, the family will welcome us with cold water and delicious local seasonal fruits, grown nearby on the island. The daughters of the family will show and explain to us how the silk production is run on a daily basis. When we have finished this fabulous visit, we will ride along the great Mekong River to immerse ourselves in the beauty of culture and the incredible people that live in the villages, all the way into the harbor village that looks over the water to Pim Chikang. We will arrive at noon for lunch at Grandma’s house, where we will enjoy a mouthwatering, authentic Khmer lunch made from Grandma’s traditional ancient Khmer recipes.
After lunch at Grandma’s house, we will cross by ferry to Pim Chikang, then we will ride the last 25km into Kompong Cham, through a quiet paved road inside the beautiful countryside and plantations along the way into the town.
We will arrive and check into our hotel for our overnight stay. When refreshed, we will enjoy dinner at a local restaurant, and relax in the beautiful surroundings.
After an early breakfast, we will transfer by air conditioned minivan, to Kompong Thmor, through the longer plantation road surrounding the ChamKa Leu area, one of biggest seasonal fruit producing areas in Cambodia during French colonial times. After arriving in Kompong Thmor, we will disembark the minivan and arrange our bikes for the ride to the Sambo Preykuk temples. We will ride through the former Khmer Rouge dam, which is now being run by a German water irrigation company that supports irrigation and agriculture projects in rural Cambodia, in the remote countryside. We will enjoy the beautiful countryside and see the locals all with incredible smiles, waving and saying hello, everywhere we ride. We’ll ride through the scenic rice paddies and breathe in the wonderful aromas that fill the air.
You will definitely need your space on your cameras to record these views and memories.
There will be three refreshment stops, offering water, fresh seasonal local fruits and traditional snacks, on the ride to the Sambo Preykuk temples.
Next we will enjoy a delicious lunch at the local restaurant, cooked by the Mother of the restaurant’s owner, nearby the temples.
After lunch, we will explore the ancient temples, then we will ride to the homestay for our overnight stay.
Dinner, at the homestay, will be cooked in the traditional local style by the family. We will relax, after dinner and listen to the interesting stories of local life, now and in the past.
When we arise in the morning, we will transfer in the air conditioned minivan to Beng Mealea temple. As soon as we arrive we will arrange our bikes, for the ride to the hidden jungle temples which were once the residence of King Suryaverman II, after which he abandoned in the preference of building and living at Angkor Wat. After the wonders of the jungle we will ride to Trang Kot dam, for lunch. The dam was man made during the Khmer Rouge regime. After lunch we ride towards Siem Reap, through the charming countryside villages, enjoying the views of the rice paddies, traditional houses and breathtaking views on a quiet road into the town.
On arrival in Siem Reap, we will check into our hotel for our overnight stay. When suitably refreshed we will enjoy an amazing dinner at one of Siem Reap’s best restaurants.
This is a fantastic way to visit the temples of Angkor, as we catch more of the sense of the jungle on a bike, than on foot or by tuk tuk, as we can adventure deeper and further and can get much closer to the hidden parts of the temples. Our temple tour will encompass a 25km ride through Angkor Thom City, which includes the West Gate, Bayon, Baphuon, the Royal Enclosure, the Terrace of Lepper King and the Terrace of the Elephants. At the Elephant Terrace we will stop for lunch in one of the local restaurants overlooking the terrace. After lunch we will continue to cycle to Ta Nie, and then we visit Ta Prohm (The Tomb Raider temple) and Majesty of the Angkor Wat temple complex.
After this eye opening delve into this incredible ancient Khmer history, we will return to Siem Reap, with a leisurely ride into town along the Siem Reap River.
We will then return you to your hotel for you final night’s stay.
