Khao Yai deserves a visit of multiple days, and if you love wildlife this 3-day wildlife tour in Khao Yai will likely be the highlight of your trip in Thailand!
On our 3-day Khao Yai Wildlife tours we’ll be out in the wilderness from morning till dark or even after dark. Activities we’ll do include jungle hiking, daytime safari drives, a night safari drive, visit Khao Yai’s major highlights like waterfalls and viewpoints, and we’ll visit the bat caves where a few million bats fly out.
Our goal of these wildlife tours is to see as much wildlife birdlife as possible while enjoying the beautiful scenery of Khao Yai.
We'll start the tour with a scenic slow drive into the park in search for wildlife such as gibbons, hornbills, macaques, and more. When we've reached a trailhead, we'll start our first jungle trekking. We try to be as quiet as possible and usually we walk slowly. Often the sounds give us a clue of where the wildlife is, and we'll try to track it down. Gibbons might call, a hornbill might drop a seed, a water dragon might pretend he's part of the foliage; there's lots of wildlife to see, but concentration and luck are important factors that help a tour succeed or not. It is certainly not a zoo. To relax our sences we'll visit one of the major waterfalls during mid-day. And in the late afternoon we'll explore areas where elephants often forage. After dinner, it's time for a night drive. With a spotlight we try to track wildlife such as deer, porcupines, civets, elephants, and other nocturnal wildlife. At the end of the day you will be returned to your hotel.
After pick up at your hotel, the day continues in a similar way as day 1, but we walk a different nature trail, and visit another waterfall. We try to choose a different habitat, in hope to add new wildlife species to the list, depending on what we have seen on the first day. At the end of the 2nd day we'll visit one of the grasslands where we hope to see wildlife appearing from the forest at sunset. We'll have dinner before we return you to your hotel; there won't be a night safari on this day.
On the last day, we start with a visit to Khao Yai's highest viewpoint on Khao Khieo mountain. This area is the habitat of the rare Pileated Gibbon, maybe we're lucky... Afterwards we'll do another hike and leave the park in the afternoon to visit a spring to refresh ourselves. The last activity of this 3-day Wildlife Tour is visiting the bat caves. If time allows, we might enter a cave to take a closer look at some bats, but we need to be ready at sunset to witness an amazing event that takes place every day; A few million of Wrinkle-lipped Bats stream out a cave mouth. It's not very likely you've ever seen such an event before!
Note: Often enough, our itineraries get turned upside down; it is impossible to plan in nature; the above is just an example itinerary.
