After a pick-up at the hotel, we choose mountain bikes to set off for the morning ride. This will take you through the Thai countryside towards the lush greenery of subtropical dipterocarp forests on the slopes of the hills surrounding Chiang Mai. Traditional villages with wooden houses on stilts, rice fields along lazy back roads and then the forest areas closer to the hillsides. Around lunch time you will arrive in a village where the local market shows the produce of these fertile valleys and mountains.
After lunch a pick-up truck will take you to a remote village in the mountains. These are the lands of the ethnic minorities like the Hmong and Karen. You start a trek that will lead you through their territory for several hours. Most hill tribes live almost self-sufficient, contact with the city is quite limited. They find a way of providing for their own needs on these steep mountain slopes. You will learn a thing or two about their lifestyles and will see incredible mountain scenery with beautiful greens and wildlife. Late in the afternoon the truck will pick you up to take you back to Chiang Mai.
