West Kalimantan is a province in the southern, Indonesia section of the island Borneo. Its landscape is defined by rivers, wetlands and rainforest areas such as Gunung Palung National Park, a mountainous sanctuary known for its population of wild orangutans. The capital, Pontianak, a Kapuas River port, straddles the equator. The riverfront Equator Monument is a symbol of the city.
