Bengkulu province lies on the southwest coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra. Stretching along the Indian Ocean coastline are Tapak Paderi beach and the main beach of Pantai Panjang, lined with restaurants, hotels and shops. The provincial capital, also called Bengkulu, features the 18th-century Fort Marlborough. Nearby, the Thomas Parr Monument commemorates a British governor assassinated during colonial rule.
