This new 3- day leisure cycling tour will give you a good impression of the history of Sukhothai and Si Satchanalai Historical Parks (locations of the first capital of Thailand). Especially for the ones who want to learn more about Sukhothai life style in the countryside of Thailand.
Duration : 3 ½ days
Distance : 150 km
Group size : 2 – 12 people
After pick up from the hotel (around 8.30 hour) we will bring you to the start point. There you will get a short safety briefing and we will do the bike fitting before we start from a small village on Sukhothai’s outskirts. We take a dirt road passing through beautiful rice paddies. Meanwhile enjoying the scenery we will witness many aspects of rural life in Thailand and interacting with local people where possible. We will see a beautiful view of the Kao Laung mountain range in Ramkhamhang National Park. Arriving at the Southern Gate of the Historical Park we will explore some of Sukhothai’s famous ancient ruins. You will marvel at beautiful Buddhist and Hindu architecture and be exposed to some of the country’s most stunning craftmanship from a period known as Thailand’s Golden Era. The tour offers the visitor a guided cultural experience, learning about Sukhothai’s history and complex architecture as well as the story of Buddhism in Thailand. After a delicious local lunch we will continue our journey cycling along the Klong Mae Lampan irrigation canals. We will pass through a small rural village and make an interesting stop at a local wood carving factory. Your overnight accommodation is a hotel in Thai style with elegantly and luxuriously decorated rooms. The hotel is situated in a quiet and peaceful surrounding and has a nice swimming pool.
After a nice breakfast at the hotel we will leave the hotel by bike and cycle alongside the “Yom River”. We will pass through a small rural village and make an interesting stop at the local Buddhist temple named “Wat Thawet”. Wat Thawet is a small but eccentric little Buddhist Hell Garden. In the so called “Buddhist Learning Garden” life sized statues illustrate Buddha’s life and the story of Ramayana. We will cross the river and follow the river Yom to the north again. The bicycle ride will be pleasant with much greenery due to the proximity of the river. We will cycle past various fruit orchards, rice and tobacco fields and many others things. We will visit an Organic Farm and have lunch there. After lunch we continue our ride alongside the river to our hotel in Sawankalok district.
After breakfast at the hotel, we will follow the Yom River again to enjoy the scenery. We will pass through villages with some of Thai traditional houses. At the riverside we will visit Wat Mahathat Cha Lieng of Si Satchanalai and explore the rich history of Si Satchanalai Historical Park. After that we will cycle alongside the river again and stop at “Kiln Museum” to see how pottery and ceramic was made during the Sukhothai period. Before we arrive at our overnight accommodation we will stop at the market to do some shopping for our dinner. Our accommodation tonight is very special because we will stay in the house of Thai people like we’re part of their family.
The last bit of the route has some rolling hills but that won’t bother us too much because we have great bikes with 24 gears.
After enjoying breakfast at our Home Stay we will make a short walking trip around the village. This walking trip is the best way to see how the people in this village do live and to learn about their daily life. We can enter houses to see their weaving work, visit “Ta Wong” the more than 85 years old man who makes children-toys. Before we leave the village we have the chance to try “Khao perb” the traditional rice noodle dish of former Si Satchanalai.
After that we will bring you back to Sukhothai New City to drop you off at your hotel.
(Note: If you want to travel on to Chiangmai in the afternoon we can bring you to the Bus or Train station in Uttaradit Province.)
