Arrival and proceed to hotel for check-in and thereafter free and easy to explore the city.
Pick up from city hotel transfer to the Semenggoh Wildlife Center some 24 kilometers away. Upon arrival, attend to a short briefing from the rangers and thereafter walk along a short trail to the feeding station. Observe the orangutans gather for their daily meals. Almost similar to the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary in Sandakan, this centers offers rehabilitation for orphaned or injured orangutans. When they are fully ready, they will be release in the wild. However, these cute and lovely primates will often come back to the center. Retrace your way back to the hotel followed by a short orientation of the city. Overnight at hotel.
This tour starts at approximately 0800Hrs. Guests will be transferred from hotel to Bako village some 30 minutes drive away. From this serene village, take a boat ride for about 25 minutes to a peninsular where Bako Park is located. However, boat access to this park is subject to the water tide. This park which is made up of mostly coastal vegetation offers varieties of wildlife such as the Proboscis monkeys which are found only in Borneo. Other primates such as the long tail macaques and silver leaf monkeys can also be found. Apart from wild boars, monitors lizards and other wildlife, birds of many species can be spotted and observe. Enjoy the several trekking trails before the transfer back to Kuching city hotel. Overnight at hotel.
At 0830hrs, pick up from hotel and be driven to Batang Ai reservoir passing through pepper farms, cocoa and fruit gardens. Stop at Serian town and explore the vibrant and colorful native markets selling local wares, fruits and supplies. Next stop will be at a pepper farm where an opportunity to learn how it is grown and processed. Lunch stop will be at Lachau town, a small outpost where folks from the interior and bordering Indonesians buy their supplies. This drive will take approximately 5 hours 30 minutes including stopovers. From the Batang Ai dam jetty, take a longboat ride for about 90 minutes to the Nanga Sumpa longhouse. The longboat ride itself is an adrenalin pumping experience especially during dry season, passing through pristine forest, small rapids, other longhouses, villagers on their or fishing in the river. Upon arrival, meet your host and after settling in, mingle with the occupants of the house. Observe their daily routine and try communicating with them. In the evening, relax on the “Ruai”, a common open verandah over a cup or two of locally brewed rice wine. Overnight at the Nanga Sumpa Lodge adjacent to the longhouse.
Wake up to the sound of birds and frogs. After a simple local breakfast but appetizing, get ready for the day’s trekking activity. The short trek will go through scenic jungle trails and possibility of a chance encounter with an Orang Utan. Along the way, go fishing and help collect edible ferns and bamboo shoots for lunch near the Enseluai waterfalls. Take a dip into the pool and shoot as many images as possible for remembrance. Done with lunch, retrace your route back to Nanga Sumpa Longhouse for overnight stay.
The sweet smell of nature greets guest early morning as they sit down for their first meal of the day and nature’s sound echoing from the jungles around. When done, a short trek again in the pristine jungle brings you nearer to nature. Assist to prepare lunch somewhere in no man’s land before the longboat ride to the Batang Ai reservoir jetty and thereafter transfer overland to Kuching city hotel for your overnight stay.
